What do you do for your day job?

Health and Safety consultant/interim with lots of social housing experience but I particularly enjoy anything that isn’t housing

What is a typical day’s work for you?

I’m either visiting clients or writing reports. I spend a long time travelling.

How did you become a member of the London Safety Group committee?

I joined the group and within a year Gordon Hicks had me on the committee.

What benefits do you feel that the Group bring for you?

Strong networking and the ability to share. A problem can become insignificant after a chat with one of the group

What do you find the most interesting part of your role within the Group?

Being able to give something back to my profession and help others from my experiences

What presents the most challenges?

Keeping the group organised and professional whilst all the committee are full on with day jobs

What’s your health and safety ‘soap-box’ subject?

Senior management leading H&S behaviours

What is your one piece of advice for a practising safety professional?

You can’t do it all overnight, you can’t do it all on your own. Do a good days work, make forward progress but above all take time for yourself.

One piece of advice for someone thinking of becoming a health and safety professional?

Have a mentor. Qualifications need experience to win through

Finally something personal about you not related at all to h&s or your day job  e.g.. Played Rugby for England / Dated Jude Law before he became famous. No porkeys please and if you have a photo all the better!

My work in H&S allows me to support a charity in rural New Hampshire. I get more of kick from washing muddy carrots than completing a risk assessment!
