Karen Hoskins – LOcHER Project

Karen Hoskins, Managing Director IBIS Solutions Ltd and partner developer of the LoCHER project gave an enaging and passionate talk today on the history and development of the LoCHER project.

LoCHER  has been championed by the HSE who were kept informed of the project development throughout its growth; the project now underpins one of the six points of the HSE campaign ‘Help Britain Work Well’  –  forming  the basis of one of the campaign’s  six points  – ‘Managing Risk Well’.

Karen explained the fresh approach to health and safety training which LoCHER spearheads.   Although originally designed for young adults at college to encourage involvement and empowerment, Karen demonstrated how the approach could be equally as successfully used in all work environments as demonstrated by the take up of the approach by the NHS.

Put simply, people are encouraged to decide how they want to research, develop ideas and promote health and safety to their audience in a format that they understand and relate to.   Whilst engaged in this process, they find themselves learning about health and safety related issues in a new an innovative way e.g short films, short group talks to camera and selfies.

The project is entirely voluntary  – the developers and participants have given their time and travel free of charge.
